In the latest edition of My Locker Room Secrets, KickOff catches up with former Lamontville Golden Arrows goalkeeper Thulasizwe Khuzwayo.
The retired 40-year-old leaves nothing out from the 2008/2009 Season Abafana Bes'thende change room.
Who was always late?
"Thokozani Mshengu was always late. Those days most of us didn't have cars so we relied on public transport to get around."
Any interesting rituals before they played?
"That should be Siyabonga Sangweni, he would always be the last one to enter the changeroom, all the time. He was the foreman in the team [laughs].
"The way he commanded respect, you'd find the guys making a lot of noise in the changeroom, but once Bra Siya came in everyone would go quiet."
Who was the jokester?
"Thamsanqa Gabuza, Njabulo Manqana, those two were always up to mischief. Gabuza was a character.
"At one stage I remember he took a hairdryer in a Joburg hotel and told us how her girlfriend would be so happy to find out he had brought her a vacuum cleaner."
Was it a muti-change room?
"I don't want to lie, at Arrows we never used muti during my time there. We were always praying. We always prayed under coach Manqoba Mnqithi and coach Mandla Ncikazi. My roommate was Vusumuzi Vilakazi the prayer warrior."
Who was the singer?
"Our teammates Siyanda Zwane and Duiker."
Who was the best dressed and the worst dressed?
"Papi Zothwane was the master of them all. That guy had expensive taste. We looked up at him, we used to call him i pantsula lase Jozi. That's what we used to call him.
"Musonda the defender was the worst dressed, he'd wear a jean with sharp-nosed formal shoes [laughs]."
Who never showered?
"Msekeli Mvalo, he never liked to shower with the rest of the guys, he always preferred to do it at home."
