Lucky Lekgwathi leads home gym training revolution in PSL

A PSL legend's muscle building and fitness routines are blowing up and inspiring more players every day, especially now during lockdown.

The suspension of football has forced teams to give players training programmes to follow to keep them fit and ready for whenever football resumes.

With so many lockdown challenges on social media, former Orlando Pirates captain Lucky Lekgwathi is using his platform to help the sporting community, especially PSL stars, with their home workouts.

Lekgwathi says his training videos on Instagram have attracted a lot of interest from current players and and feels lockdown reminds us about the importance of doing extra training without a coach having to reminding you.

"Most of the current players have shown interest in my workout videos and we also talk with them about the current situation," Lekgwathi tells snl24.com/kickoff.

"The coronavirus is teaching us that we don't need someone to remind us about the importance of training. As a player you must always be ready to do training on your own."

Living a healthy lifestyle has helped the former Buccaneers defender look younger and he says the response he is getting from current and former players makes him proud.

One of those is Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Andile Jali, who has been posting videos of himself training hard on his own.

"I'm so happy that most of my training motivates players, even those who have retired. They always tell me the way I'm so fit, I can still play professional football," Lekgwathi adds.

"One of those players is Andile Jali. He has impressed me with his attitude. I told him to keep it up and not do it for the coach because once the lockdown ends, he will benefit from his hard work."
