Chiefs made clear their intentions in June last year when they raided the transfer market for the services of half a dozen players that have tasted international football in the colours of South Africa - Siboniso Gaxa, Morgan Gould, Siyabonga Nkosi, Mulomowandau Mathoho, Tsepo Masilela and Nhlanhla Khuzwayo.
AmaKhosi also added Zimbabwe international striker Kingstone Nkatha to stand out as the club that did the best signings last winter making a bold statement that they were serious about wrestling the crown of being champions of South Africa from rivals Orlando Pirates.
"The team signed quality international players at the beginning of the season and it was never going to be difficult for them to fit into the team because of the experience that they have. They all gelled into the team quicker than anybody thought because they were all ready. The new players we brought in this season have really been vital for us," says Letsholonyane adding that even the vibe within the squad has felt different this season.
"The difference is that this season we have played more as a team and the team spirit is always high plus we are working for each other. I think everyone can see that in previous seasons team spirit wasn't the best…even though we had good team spirit in the previous seasons it has now improved tremendously and that is one of the key points to note," he says.
That positive mood appears to have also rubbed on well on the 30 year-old midfielder who admits that he is having his best season at Chiefs since he arrived five years ago from Jomo Cosmos and gives a lot of credit to his midfield partner Willard Katsande for allowing him the freedom to be more offensive.
"This has been one of the best seasons that I have had since I came to Kaizer Chiefs. If you are happy it is natural that you will do well. The relationship that you build around God, team mates, technical team, family and supporters is important.
"We have had a new technical team this season and they have freshened up things for us plus we have a different style of play to the way we do things. On the field of play the brand of football that our coach wants us to play suits the team and also suits me as an individual. He lets us enjoy ourselves by giving us the freedom to express our abilities but within the structure of the team.
"Playing with Katsande who is more defensive and a typical holding midfielder has given me more opportunities to go forward. He is the kind of guy that will take care of everything and allow me to go forward even though I also need to do defensive duties," explains ‘Yeye'.
Yeye adds that they will be treating Sunday's League game against second placed Platinum Stars as a Cup Final.
"As a team we have four Cup Finals remaining starting with the game on Sunday," he says.
