Mashamaite: Main challenge at Chiefs

With Kaizer Chiefs still struggling for results, former club captain Tefu Mashamaite has suggested what the main challenge could be.

Amakhosi are still smarting from two successive defeats against Richards Bay FC and Golden Arrows.

They have struggled to find form throughout the season and there is danger of fighting for a Top Eight spot instead of pushing for a continental finish.

Lying eighth in the standings, only three points separates the Soweto giants with Chippa United, Golden Arrows, and Magesi FC , who are placed ninth, 10th and 11th on the log, respectively, with the Gqeberha-based outfit and Abafana Bes'thende having two and three games in hand.

KickOff.com posed a question to Mashamaite regarding the factors behind such poor form, even towards the end of the season.

"I think it's lack of consistency. Once you're not consistent with the results, the confidence fluctuates. So, I think that's the main challenge," Mashamaite offered.

"But you look at the squad, there is a lot of quality, also a quality coach, who has a good background (of Chiefs). I think it is just a matter of combinations coming together, them winning two, three games in a row and gain confidence.

"I think it is just the lack of confidence to be honest with you," he added.

Amakhosi now turn their focus to TS Galaxy, who actually lie fourth in the Premiership table with limited resources, on Saturday.

Should they not return to winning ways, they could drop out of the Top Eight if the aforementioned teams get maximum points.

The encounter against The Rockets will be tricky as Nasreddine Nabi's men also have one eye on the Nedbank Cup semi-final against Mamelodi Sundowns next weekend.
