Following criticism on Kaizer Chiefs captain Yusuf Maart, former skipper of the side, Tefu Mashamaite, has opened up on the matter.
Maart has previously been criticized, as supporters and at times legends feel he does not deserve or inspire confidence to be a captain.

Criticism on the former Sekhukhune United midfielder heightened after he missed a penalty in a defeat to Golden Arrows.
"I don't think Maart being a captain and critics feeling he does not deserve the captaincy, warrants criticism," revealed Mashamaite, speaking exclusively to KickOff.com.
"We as legends we will always have our opinion, but at the end of the day, it's people within the squad, people who are there on a daily basis, who see the leadership qualities in him. And if they go with him as a leader, I don't think we outside should have a lot to say."
The former PSL Footballer of the Season also revealed how captains are selected at Naturena.
"When it comes to the captaincy, during our time, it was Bobby (Motaung) as a team manager, together with the coach. They would sit down and identify three or four players, who will also sit in the committee responsible for negotiating when there's grievances and stuff like that," he explained.
Do players vote for captains?
"That's not the criteria. I mean, if it was a matter of players voting, I'm sure I'm most likely to choose my friend. I don't think that would be fair on the club as a whole.
"The hierarchy at the end of the day have to identify potential leaders in the team and make that call.

"So, I'm sure they have seen the qualities in Maart. I'm sure he's inspiring the players at training and in games. At the end of the day, we're not there, we don't know what's happening.
"And if they (Chiefs management) are sticking with him, I'm sure they have seen qualities in him and we should respect that as legends and all stakeholders," the former defender added.
