Out of favour Kaizer Chiefs defender's fate set to be sealed

Out of favour Kaizer Chiefs defender Austin Thabani Dube's fate is set to be sealed in the next couple of weeks with a January transfer window move already being lined up.

Dube joined Chiefs at the beginning of last season and had an encouraging 17 appearances in his first season though only seven were full shifts.

This season he has found himself sinking further into the mud with the arrival of Zitha Kwinika and Edmilson Dove – the two defenders that have played in the left central defence position this season.

At 30, Dube needs game time instead of enjoying the comforts of being a squad player at Naturena.

This website has been told that Maritzburg United need a centre back which provides an option for Dube.

The best solution for now would be a loan deal running until the end of the season by which time he will still have another year remaining on his Chiefs contract.

He signed a three-year deal with an option for a further two years when he joined at the beginning of last season but hasn't made much progress on the field.

At the time of joining Chiefs he was knocking on the Bafana door after impressing at the COSAFA Cup and even sat on the bench for two World Cup qualifiers.

However, he is now forgotten and in need of reviving his career.

Discussions are underway with possibilities of returning to Richards Bay being pursued though the PSL newboys are in a good space in their defensive structures with the second-best defence in the league.
