Tefu: Who to blame for Chiefs conceding almost every game

With Kaizer Chiefs conceding in almost every game, former defender Tefu Mashamaite opens up on what the problem is in that regard.

Chiefs conceded once again as their winless run in the league extended to four games, after a 1-1 draw against TS Galaxy on Saturday.

They have kept only three clean sheets in their last seven matches in the Premiership, which is the main reason why they find themselves lying a lowly eighth in the standings.

There have been suggestions that head coach Nasreddine Nabi should try out a different goalkeeper, for a possible change of fortunes.

However, Mashamaite, believes it is not about singling out departments.

"I think it is just a matter of confidence because if the defence is conceding consistently, then it just messes up the whole system," detailed Mashamaite, speaking to KickOff.com.

"And you must remember, in the modern game, you can't just compartmentalize or single out just one department. Especially with us, defending starts right at the top.

"If the team is organized, then it becomes difficult to be penetrated. I think it is just a matter of fixing little things. For example, you look at the game against Golden Arrows, it was just two basic errors from two experienced defenders.

"But such things happen, it's quite elementary and as a coach there's nothing you can do if defenders are committing elementary mistakes," he explained.

The ex-PSL Footballer of the Season, whose combination at the back with the likes of Erick Mathoho and Morgan Gould delivered titles for Chiefs, insisted the current team is still in need of finding the right and working combinations.

"So, it's just a matter of working hard and rectifying those little things.

"But they are still great defenders, there's great players at Chiefs. It's just a matter of finding those combinations."
