‘That’s where Rayners will come in and give them a goal’

Former Mamelodi Sundowns striker Sandile "AK-47" Ndlovu is confident new signing Iqraam Rayners is going to shine at Chloorkop after making the switch from Stellenbosch FC.

As revealed by KickOff earlier on Wednesday, the big marksman is set to be announced by the defending champions following his impressive performances for the Winelands-based outfit last season.

Ndlovu believes Rayners will do well at Sundowns despite coming from a different environment, where the expectations are not as huge.

"He is a good signing I must say. You must remember, at some point, Peter Shalulile tried to push for a move away from Mamelodi Sundowns,"Ndlovu tells KickOff.

"So, Rayners is a speedy striker and is lucky when it comes to goals. At Sundowns, they can play football for 89 minutes and not score, so that's where Rayners will come in and give them a goal in the 90th minute.

"We needed someone to make the forward runs for the midfielders, someone who knows how to position himself, someone who's got speed. Remember, he once scored five goals in a single match.

"I think Sundowns bought him for goals and, just like Shalulile, Rayners can score a goal out of nowhere. At his age, Rayners is at his peak right now. He will help Shalulile and Lucas Ribeiro [Costa] score goals," he adds.

"If you want to succeed as a Sundowns striker, don't try to emulate your teammates by playing tiki-taka. Just [create] space and communicate with your suppliers; just finish their moves."

Another new signing in the striking force for the Tshwane giants is Arthur Sales from Brazil, who, being taller thank Rayners, is expected to offer a different dimension to the side's attack.
