Sundowns’ CAF Champions League opponents confirmed

Mamelodi Sundowns are set to meet Swazi Premier League Champions Mbabane Swallows in the CAF Champions League second preliminary round.

Swallows booked a ticket in the next stage of the Champions League after beating Mozambican team Clube Ferroviario da Beira 1-0 on aggregate to set u[ a meeting with Sundowns.

The Swazi side beat Ferroviario by 1-0 during the first leg match at the Lucas Moripe Stadium before settling for a 0-0 draw in Mozambique on Sunday.

Umkhonto KaShaka as Mbabane Swallows are affectionately known in eSwatini, are expected to host Sundowns for the CAF Champions League match on September 13-15 before traveling to Pretoria for the second leg on September 20-22.

Swallows are highly expected to take their match against the Brazilians to Mbombela Stadium due to the unavailability of an approved stadium in eSwatini after Somhlolo Stadium in Lobamba closed for renovation.

According to the club official Welile Mabuza, they are expected to determine their home venue Champions League match against Mamelodi Sundowns before the end of this week.

"We are excited about the prospect of facing Mamelodi Sundowns. The players are motivated. This is going to be great exposure for them. We are still going to meet as a club to confirm the home venue for the match against Sundowns. Mbombela stadium could be another alternative venue after we hosted the team from Mozambique in Pretoria", Mabuza tells KickOff.

Orlando Pirates have since joined Mamelodi Sundowns for the CAF Champions League second round preliminary round after beating Disciples FC by 4-0 at the Orlando Stadium in Soweto on Friday. Pirates will meet Jwaneng Galaxy in the next stage of the Champions League.
