Still no luck for Sundowns star

Marcelo Allende might just have to accept that his international career will remain in the freezer if he is still at Mamelodi Sundowns.

Allende is into his third season at Sundowns and throughout that time has found himself being ignored for selection into the Chilean senior squad regardless of his club form.

There was hope that after La Roja's poor run at the 2024 Copa America, Allende would be considered by Ricardo Gareca.

However, it has remained the same for the player as he continues being ignored with the Chileans having no interest in what he is doing at Sundowns.

The 25-year-old has been a gem in his time with The Brazilians since arriving from Uruguay two years ago.

After captaining Chile at the 2019 South American U20 Championships, the midfielder was primed for the senior team but has only won a single cap at that level.

The latest squad selected for the two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Argentina and Bolivia in September doesn't feature Allende's name again.

This is despite as many as 30 players who were in the preliminary Copa America squad being dropped.

Allende's next hope will be to put in a good showing at next year's FIFA Club World Cup, which will attract a global audience and get the Chilean selectors interest.

Meanwhile, Erwin Saavedra has also been excluded from Bolivia's national team after his return to Sundowns.

Saavedra has been on loan at his former club Bolivar FC since the beginning of the year and during that time found his way back to the national team.

The 28-year-old even played in a pre-Copa America friendly against Mexico before he was dropped from the squad that travelled.

Bolivia will play Venezuela and Chile next month.
