Steve Komphela has turned on to his classical traits in outlining what comes with being in the demanding job at Mamelodi Sundowns.
Komphela is back as senior coach at the club after having left for Moroka Swallows and then Golden Arrows while Rulani Mokwena was the head coach.
So much has been asked about whether Sundowns will keep cruising with a new leadership structure in the dressing room.
"The leadership environment at Sundowns is very complex," notes Komphela.

"And not only now, it has always been like that.
"In high performance environments, you can't hold too much sentiment because it is about production and answering the question directly about what is holding us together.
"It is maturity, selflessness and understanding leadership.
"If you are at a very complex environment like that and you are selfish, then you will have a problem.
"If you are at an environment like that and you lack maturity, then you will have a problem because you can imagine if I go in there and I'm egoistic and coach Manqoba is there.
"No, but Steve Komphela has coached at (Golden) Arrows and Kaizer Chiefs and all that and then you don't want to accept that leadership is about sharing opinions and understanding that positions are not a reflection of leadership but your input and maturity in dealing with matters to get maximum output, that is leadership.
"If you lack that understanding, you cannot work at Mamelodi Sundowns and you cannot work anywhere else.
"So, in modern leadership and management, even in corporate, you need to have soft skills.
"No matter how good you are in modern life, you can be a top person and all that, but when you lack soft skills, you will see nothing in leadership.
"We don't instruct anymore, you have to get a buy-in, you don't bulldoze people.
"You must have soft skills to speak sense to these people so that they understand why it has to be done and not what has to be done.

"Focus and have the same level of expectation from disappointment that success is always surrounded by a lot of sourness and disappointment.
"A slight touch of sourness and bitterness should not dampen your spirit and aggressive desire to want to succeed," says Komphela.
