Kadodia: The PSL should have intervened

Durban City owner Farook Kadodia attributes the challenges he faced in Maritzburg, to the Premier Soccer League.

He believes the PSL should have engaged with the Msunduzi municipality on their behalf regarding stadium issues.

Kadodia explains that their current position at the top of the log table stems from having a stable home ground.

He has also addressed rumours that he plans to sell the club during this transfer window.

Now that the team, formerly known as Maritzburg United, is leading the Motsepe Foundation Championship log table, there has been significant interest in the club.

"No, that's not true, we are not selling. We are focused on promotion, but we understand there is still a long way to go, with 15 games remaining in the league," Kadodia told KickOff.

"This league is challenging and unpredictable for everyone, and we must find our way. We have a stable base in Durban, whereas last season we were like a gypsy team, travelling from Maritzburg and playing at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium. That was our major problem. Now that we are playing in Durban, we finally have a home, which is crucial."

Kadodia noted that his side is only two points clear at the top of the table.

"I wish we had a 10-point lead. I hope the PSL recognizes the importance of our club. When we encountered stadium issues, we received little support from anyone.

"The PSL could have intervened and informed Maritzburg United of our need for a stadium. But that's all behind us now, we need to focus on the 15 games ahead."

City is coached by Simo Dladla, who has provided them with a strong start this season.

"At this moment, we want the coach to achieve something significant in his career, and we aim to give him the platform to secure promotion," Kadodia remarked.

In commenting on any plans for the transfer window, the chairman was coy,

"Nothing major is planned. We will manage our situation and aim for two or three players, but we will assess it in the next 10 days."
