Spurs thrash Callies to boost survival hopes

Cape Town Spurs 4-0 Pretoria Callies

Cape Town Spurs boosted their survival hopes in the Motsepe Foundation Championship with a 4-0 victory over Pretoria Callies on Tuesday evening.

Khaya Mfecane, Luuk Baartman, Keenan Bezuidenhout and Denzel Du Plessis were on target and steered the Urban Warriors to the full haul of points.

The Urban Warriors are now four points above the bottom-two, while the Romans dropped into the dreaded relegation zone following the damaging set-back.

University of Pretoria 2-1 Casric Stars

Casric Stars’ top-two aspirations suffered a set-back in a 2-1 loss to the University of Pretoria at the Tuks Stadium.

The loss comes on the back of a six-match unbeaten run, whereas AmaTuks bounce back from a two-match winless streak.

AmaTuks were dominant from the onset and led through Tshepang Makara and Kgomotso Mosadi, but Joel Agoe's strike proved to be nothing more than a consolation.

Hungry Lions 1-2 Orbit College

Orbit College regained second spot in the Motsepe Foundation Championship ahead of Casric Stars following a 2-1 victory over Hungry Lions on Wednesday.

A long-range stunner from Sekhoane Moerane after the opening five minutes set the visitors well on their way.

Di Tau went further behind late in the second half through a well-worked effort by Tshepo Matsemela.

However, the home team got a lifeline towards the remaining minutes of the match but it didn’t inspire a comeback as Orbit snatched maximum points.

Black Leopards 2-1 Highbury FC

Black Leopards rallied from behind to get the better of Highbury FC 2-1 and revived their play-off hopes.

The second tier’s new boys didn’t take long to make their intentions known but were in the lead very early on in the encounter courtesy of Tshepo Sediti.

Having trailed at the break, Lidoda Duvha redeemed themselves afterwards and struck twice in the matter of minutes to complete a come-from-behind victory.

Leruma United 1-2 Venda Football Academy

Venda Football Academy boosted their survival hopes with a 2-1 victory over Leruma United in a bottom-two encounter.

After a cagey start, the visiting side were in the ascendancy five minutes ahead of the break through a solid finish from Moletshe Onke and registered a brace in the second half to send them well on their way to victory.

The host pulled a fight back in additional time with a finish from the penalty spot, but it was too little too late as Venda confirmed victory.

Baroka FC 1-1 Upington City

Upington City’s winless run extended to six matches after a 1-1 draw against Baroka FC.

The visiting side enjoyed a purposed start to proceedings and took the lead courtesy of a smartly taken finish from Bafana Mokwena.

Bakgaga Ba Ga Mphahlele didn’t lose momentum therefore secured the equaliser through Tshepo Mashiloane.

Durban City PP Milford Stallions

The Motsepe Foundation Championship match between Durban City and Milford Stallions on Tuesday was suspended midway in due to a tragic incident.

This after the player from the Team of Choice in Sinamandla Zondi sadly passed on – the match didn’t conclude and was called off before the start of the second half.
