MFC: Durban City cement top spot

Milford Stallions 1-2 Durban City

Durban City finished the first half of the season in the Motsepe Foundation Championship on a high with a 2-1 triumph over Milford Stallions on Saturday.

Joslin Kamatuka's scoring streak continued as he put the Team of Choice in front before the visitors replied to guide the contest level at the break.

City never gave up though and claimed all the points deep in added time of the final whistle, with Nkosithandile Zondi finding the back of the net to seal top spot for the rest of the year.

Venda Football Academy 1-2 Highbury FC

Highbury FC got the better of bottom-placed Venda Football Academy 2-1 to register back-to-back victories and finished their last game of the year positively.

Venda, who have been battling from the get-go, were off to a fast start through Kazeem D'Angelo but the resurgent charges replied to level maters at the break.

As the clash began to wind down, the travelling charges who were promoted from the third tier this season bagged all the points courtesy of a decisive finish.

Casric Stars 2-2 Kruger United

Casric Stars two-match winning streak in the league ended after Kruger United rallied immensely to claim a 2-2 draw in Mpumalanga.

On the other hand, Kruger's unbeaten run in all competitions extends to eight matches and were on course to victory only to be cancelled by Lebohang Lesako's penalty.

Stars got in front for the first time through Teboho Lekhatla, but the boys from Nelspruit rallied back to ultimately go on and secure a point.

Orbit College 0-0 JDR Stars

JDR Stars failed to move level on points with the leaders Durban City after playing to a goalless draw with Orbit College in the Motsepe Foundation Championship on Sunday.

The Hammerboys do end the year in second spot, two points from the top as Orbit down in third and three points from the summit.

University of Pretoria 1-0 Leruma United

University of Pretoria concluded the first part of the season positively with a 1-0 win over the struggling Leruma United.

Khomotso Marebane got the opener on 12 minutes and lead the host well on the way to maximum points, with the lead maintained at the break.

With the victory, AmaTuks moved to ninth spot as Leruma remain in the bottom-two and on a run of eight successive matches with defeats in all competitions.

Baroka FC 4-2 Black Leopards

Baroka FC's winning run of form in the Motsepe Foundation Championship didn't let up and bagged a 4-2 victory over Black Leopards on Friday.

With yet another emphatic victory for Bakgaga, they close-in to the top-half having crushed rivals Venda Football Academy by the same outcome last time out.

David Mothipi and Sekela Sithole scored twice each to guide the host to maximum points, while Nkosephayo Mavundla and Mwape Musonda got on board for Lidoda Duvha.

Hungry Lions 1-1 Upington City

Hungry Lions and Upington City finished the first part of the season in the second tier battling each other to a 1-1 draw in the Northern Cape.

The point halts Bafana Ba Gucci's three-match losing run, while Di Tau also bounced back from last weekend's set-back at JDR Stars.

Upington, who just appointed Brandon Truter as coach, got off to the perfect start through Tlotlo Leepile's finely struck free-kick but the host soon levelled courtesy of Ronaldo van Neel.

Pretoria Callies 2-1 Cape Town Spurs

Cape Town Spurs woes continued to deepen and slumped further down the standings after going down 2-1 to Pretoria Callies in Atteridgeville.

Pressure no doubt will sure mount on embattled coach Ernst Middendorp and have the club winless in the league since September.

In fact, the Romans returned to winning ways to leapfrog the Urban Warriors on the standings and edged towards the top eight bracket.
