Orlando Pirates have bagged the MTN8 title for the third season in a row with a come-from-behind 3-1 win over Stellenbosch on Saturday night.
Nkosinathi Sibisi, Thabiso Monyane, Monnapule Saleng and Evidence Makgopa were restored by the Buccaneers following the win over Richards Bay FC, while the Maroons had Sage Stephens and Andre De Jong back from last weekend's draw at Polokwane City in the Betway Premiership.
The Buccaneers were stunned on ten minutes where a long throw-in entered the box and saw De Jong flick-on for Lehlogonolo Mojela to finish with a superb overhead kick.
Pressure began to build on the Maroons near the half-hour mark though and a point-blank save from Stephens deny Patrick Maswanganyi profiting at the far post.
Nothing though fazed the boys from the Winelands who in fact threatened to double the lead where a first-time effort from the edge of the box Jabaar forced Sipho Chaine to dive down and palmed.
The Soweto giants did go level after a powerful free-kick from Deon Hotto proved too hot for Stephens, who parried the ball back into play only for Saleng to capitalise and rifle home.
Hotto was in with a chance a minute in the second period with an effort from a tight angle following a stray ball, but Stephens palmed off the upright.
Pirates coach Jose Riveiro revived the attack with Tshegofatso Mabasa introduced ahead of Makgopa before Relebohile Mofokeng turned out for Innocent Maela.
Stephens proved telling again in the closing quarter when he rushed out of his area to deny Saleng a point-blank finish and in the process a brace.
The Buccaneers sealed victory at the death as quickly taken free-kick following a foul on Maswanganyi saw Mabasa run in-behind and slammed in the bottom-corner.
Pirates weren't done and bagged a third goal after Mofokeng got behind after combining with Mabasa and tossed and turn the defence to fire into an empty net, sealing the title for a third straight season.
