Stellenbosch brush Galaxy aside in MTN8

Stellenbosch FC sealed their spot in the semi-finals of the MTN8 after defeating TS Galaxy 3-1 on Sunday afternoon.

On the back of an outstanding season, the Maroons kept faith with the tried and tested in Iqraam Rayners, Antonio Van Wyk notably before the Rockets started Wensten Van der Linde in goal following the departure of Fiacre Ntwari to Kaizer Chiefs.

Stellies trailed just over the midway stages when Kamogelo Sebelebele made a sharp turn outside the area to skip a few challenges and fired into the bottom-corner.

The Maroons levelled well ahead of the half-hour mark after a delivery behind force Van der Linde to commit only for a charging Jayden Adams to sneak in and finished from a tight angle.

Sebelebele went close to restoring ascendancy in the closing minutes after meeting a loose pass outside the area, but Stellies goalkeeper Sage Stephens parried.

The Maroons instead were ahead five minutes to halftime after De Jong sneaked in at the near post of the six-yard area and nodded into the far post.

Stellenbosch did not lose momentum whatsoever and continued going on the front, with when Fawaaz Basadien made an overlapping run to the near side and finished from a tight angle to add the third goal.

With the lead in control, the Maroons made a double substitution in Anicet Oura for Antonio Van Wyk before Sihle Ndluli vacated to give new signing Sanele Barns his debut.

No team really enjoyed control of proceedings following the closing minutes, but the Rockets pushed tirelessly for an upturn in momentum though were kept firmly at bay.

It didn't end all too well for the Rockets two minutes to fulltime as Mac Beth Mahlangu received his marching orders after a second bookable offence.

Stellies targeted a fourth in added time with new signing Lehlohonolo Mojela in-behind, but he dragged over though the host still bagged victory and a semi-final spot.
