The Mamelodi Sundowns star midfielder, who once revealed that he grew up supporting Chiefs, believes that Pirates’ cup competitions experience, specifically managing to reach three cup finals last season, will stand them in good stead for the clash at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
“I think that it will be a tough game and it is tricky to choose the winner. Both sides are playing well and after all it is a Soweto Derby. I think the team that wants it more at the end of the day will take it. [laughs]…I will go for Orlando Pirates on this one,” Modise tells his own website tekomodise.co.za.
“I think they have the experience of playing in cup competitions. They played a lot of finals last season and they will have the upper hand.”
Meanwhile, Modise admits that he’s ‘sad’ that the Brazilians are not in the Final after they lost 2-1 to Platinum Stars in the quarterfinals, but adds that Sundowns will do well to watch their rivals closely in preparation for future games against the Soweto teams.
“It is a sad that we exited the competition early. I would have loved to be contending for the trophy and I think that it would have been a confidence booster for the team. It was unfortunate we were knocked out, but we have moved on from that.
“Yes it is between Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates and will be a game to watch for the neutrals and the whole of South Africa. It is good for football. I have always said that I am a football supporter and it will be interesting to watch the two teams take each other on.
“For me it is not just entertainment, but an opportunity to study the way they play and it gives us an advantage when we have to play either of the two.”
