My Dream Team: Benson Mhlongo

Benson Mhlongo has selected the most bizarre yet touching best eleven we've seen to date in a special edition of My Dream Team.

Mhlongo captained almost every team he played for including Bidvest Wits, Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and South Africa.

Having earned his stripes at Wits under Roger de Sa, Mhlongo went on to have a distinguished career and won four Absa Premiership titles and eight domestic cups.

He won two league titles with The Brazilians in 2005/06 and 2006/07 and two more championships with The Buccaneers in 2010/11 and 2011/12, and picked up more MTN8 and Telkom Knockout trophies with Platinum Stars in 2013.

But his Dream Team, while quite odd and beyond formal explanation, remains heartfelt and sincere as a tribute to the figures in his career who made him.

Mhlongo has named a few people on his substitutes bench that probably should have been in his team and also honours his mother Virginia, who has supported him through thick and thin.

Benson's Dream Team Bench:

Mrs Virginia Makhosazane Mhlongo - "My mother who bought me my first pair of soccer boots and was there and is still here supporting me with my football career. Love my mother," Mhlongo tells snl24.com/kickoff.

Brian Baloyi - "My big brother who looked after me."

Edward Motale - "The legend who always encouraged me."

Ashley Makhanya - "Helped me to grow at Wits."

Maimane Phiri - "Always used to be with me off-season coming from Turkey and helped me believe in my abilities."

Philly Mathebula - "The founder of Philly's Games in Tembisa who gave me and others a platform to showcase our talent."
