The Bucs are currently in Durban for their Nedbank Cup final date with SuperSport United, which they will be hard pressed to win to make up for the disappointment of their league campaign.
“This final is the most important thing now,” says Wome.
Winning this cup will mean a return to continental football for the first South African club to lift an African club title back in 1995.
“We really want to fight for the badge because no one is bigger than the badge. We want to fight for this badge and win the cup," he adds.
"We have to do this for the fans because they deserve this. This club does well in CAF competitions and every player here wants to play in CAF to be on another level and not only in the PSL.
"So I will be happy if we win this cup and play in CAF, even though I still have to see where I will be next season,” he continues, noting just how much he has enjoyed the challenges that comes with being at Pirates.
“I have been happy to be part of the biggest club because I love to play under pressure. Even though the team was struggling, I was happy to join them in January and we went through a difficult time but I think we will be happy very soon.
"We need to focus on this cup only because we are going to fix a lot of things for sure next season. I do love playing with a lot of good players and that is why I joined this team. Pirates has a lot of good players so even though we have struggled I am happy that I joined the club."
Yet, after all is said and done, the fact that he is on loan from Pirates’ opponents tonight cannot be ignored.
With this being a repeat of last year’s final in the same competition it will be injustice to forget that the Togolese international was in the opposite dressing room a year ago.
SuperSport were the winners last year and Wome could be in line for a rare mark of being a winner in consecutive years with different clubs, as he knows all about Matsatsantsa's strategies.
“I was in the SuperSport dressing room this time last year and I know how they prepare," he admits. "Last time we prepared well because we knew that Pirates will have the ball and we just needed to have fighting spirit to help us fight until the end, which is what we did and we won the cup.
"I think they really want to do that again and at Pirates we have already spoken about that, so we will be up to the challenge. Their fighting spirit is not going to be a big issue on the field."
