Cardoso: Chiefs were dead before Suarez's mistake

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso believes the Brazilians were the only team playing with the intention to win at Loftus Versfeld on Sunday evening.

Kaizer Chiefs came back from a goal down at halftime to get over the line all through Wandile Duba and Ashley Du Preez and book their spot in the Nedbank Cup final.

For Cardoso, the first half was not good bad for both teams despite the stunner from Teboho Mokoena on the brink of halftime and added they were the only team looking to win.

“Basically, we saw one team that wanted to make effort between the game and the other one that wanted to sustain it. It was clear that the team with the intention to win was Sundowns. The first half was not the best one no doubt, but it was not the best one for both teams,” Cardoso told SuperSport TV.

“I think at halftime we corrected, we came out stronger, we controlled the game, and unfortunately there’s an incredible mistake that brings one goal and brings alive one team that was dead that’s the story of this game.

“From then on, we continued and we pushed trying to go for the second goal and then we suffered from a corner or free-kick whatever…that I need to see. It’s obviously not good, but we have to keep on going."

Masandawana brought on Jayden Adams for Bathusi Aubaas and Arthur Sales for Iqraam Rayners at the start of the second half.

“The reason for that was on the pitch because you saw a better Sundowns in the second half- the intention was to have more ball, more control of the game and we had it until the moment we made that mistake that changed the story of this game.

“I think the boys tried to push and continue to search for the second goal and everybody was waiting for extra-time we suffered a goal that I don’t even know how it came about."
