SuperSport through to NBK Cup last 8 with late winner

SuperSport United overcame Cape Town Spurs 2-1 after extra-time to book their spot in the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup on Wednesday evening.

Matsatsantsa made one change as Keanin Ayer replaced Siphesihle Ndlovu following the draw against Sekhukhune United in their last match on Sunday.

Spurs stunned the host on five minutes when Therlo Moosa ran clean through from the right of the area and cut inside of Ime Okon to finish from a tight angle.

Confidence from the home team didn't drop and threatened to leveller through a curling free-kick by Aphiwe Baliti forced goalkeeper Neil Boshoff to palm for a corner.

Boshoff made himself big again from the subsequent corner and pulled a remarkable outstretched save to the far side to guide Nyiko Mobbie's header away from the net.

SuperSport eventually clawed level ten minutes before halftime as Okon made the most of a loose ball from a free-kick and riffled in the top corner of the net.

Matsatsantsa should've gone ahead soon in the second half through Nurkovic, but the Serbian headed wide from inside the box from Baliti's cross.

Coach Gavin Hunt made a double substitution and brought on Oratilwe Moloisane for Brooklyn Poggenpoel before seeing Terrence Dzvukamanja replace Ghampani Lungu.

Matsatsantsa were moments to going ahead when a move on the edge of the area fell perfectly for Mobbie to hit first-time, but Boshoff met it superbly.

With no goals forthcoming during the final exchanges, the clash went to extra-time to determine the winner.

Frustrations in front of goal moreover for the host continued as Dzvukamanja deflected Saile's snap shot in the area onto the post.

SuperSport snatched the winner two minutes to the end when Moloisane came in from the left side and crossed for Lebohang Maboe to side-foot in the top corner.

The final whistle soon went and guided the Tshwane giants to quarter-finals, with the Championship outfit eliminated.
