Chaine discloses Pirates keeper formula

Sipho Chaine has stressed what he believes is vital as a goalkeeper at Orlando Pirates.

From waiting three years for his break at Bloemfontein Celtic, Chaine has since established himself as the first choice throughout the past two years at Pirates, leaving Melusi Buthelezi behind him, while also breaking into the Bafana Bafana squad.

This season, the 28-year-old has only missed a single match and has kept a clean sheet in half of the 26 games that he has played.

His rise has come after having had to negotiate his way through competing with Richard Ofori, Wayne Sandilands, and Siyabonga Mpontshane, through to now playing ahead of Buthelezi, who had interests of playing when joining from TS Galaxy.

"I know this is football, and every player wants to play, and every football player comes to training wanting to represent the club," says Chaine.

"I know it is not an easy position for somebody else not to play consistent.

"I have also found myself in that position [before], but I think the most important thing for us as the goalkeeping department is to keep improving ourselves and for us to stick together.

"His win is my win, and my win is his win.

"So, as a department, we strive to get the best out of each other and for me with Melusi, it is something that we have spoken about over the last couple of years that we have been together.

"Our biggest thing is to get the best out of each other and get Pirates where it needs to be.

"It is a relationship, and we work on it every day.

"Sometimes it is good and sometimes it is the great things that you see," says Chaine.
