‘I don’t see Al Ahly winning against Pirates’

Orlando Pirates' next CAF Champions League assignment on Saturday against Al Ahly at Orlando Stadium has come with some rare backing from North Africa.

Pirates started their group campaign with a 2-1 win away at CR Belouizdad and have serial winners Al Ahly as their next North African opponents.

Of interest is the fact that they won the last two matches against the Egyptian heavyweights, which came via the semi-finals of the 2015 CAF Confederation Cup.

Thamsanqa Gabuza scored the only goal at Orlando before an expectant crowd, while the second leg had thrills written all over as it finished 4-3 in favour of Bucs.

Nine years later, the two clubs face off in a Group C match as Pirates get to play the first of five matches remaining this year both locally and on the continent.

"Al Ahly are always there for the taking on the road because I don't think they enjoy playing on the road in Africa," says Amr Hosni, an Egyptian agent from Seven Eleven Agency, who are based in Cairo.

"Another thing is that Al Ahly have their own vulnerability issues at the back, which Pirates can exploit considering that they have pace going forward.

"There have been issues of focus at the back in this Ahly team as evidenced by the mistakes that they have made at the back.

"Their top striker Wessam Abou Ali is not available due to injury, while Percy Tau is not having a good time, so they have limitations up front.

"Wassem was their top scorer with 21 goals last season, so you can imagine how much they miss him, so they will have a problem there.

"At best, Ahly will come with a draw, but I don't see them winning at Orlando.

"Ahly will bargain on winning here in Cairo because they have the experience of doing the business at home in the Champions League.

"I honestly don't see Ahly winning this match against Pirates.

"However, Ahly still have quality players in their squad," says Hosni.
