Ex-striker gifts Pirates a Rele replica

In the recently concluded Pirates Cup, Rethabile Ramoenteli, a product of the James Mothibi Development Academy, won Player of the Tournament.

As a result, he has secured a development contract with the Soweto giants.

"The boy is going to Pirates. He will be playing in the club's DStv Diski Challenge team, and he is currently only 17-years-old," a source revealed.

"And obviously, it will be a development contract. From what I've seen during the Pirates Cup, this boy is going to become one of the best strikers very soon."

Mothibi scouted the player  in Bloemfontein for the academy located in Kuruman, Northern Cape.

However, since Ramoenteli is still in school, he has only been able to participate during school holidays and tournaments.

"His style of play is similar to that of (Relebohile) Mofokeng. They play the same position, are of similar height, and look alike. They are like twins."

Word has it Ramoenteli has never attended trials before.

The Pirates Cup has been an excellent breeding ground for the Soweto giants since its inception.

Last year, during the same competition, the club signed another promising youngster, Dimpho ‘Khalabemgeza’ Madalane, who was named the Player Of The Tournament.

Madalane, whose nickname means ‘crying while they are bathing him’, hails from eMalahleni United, a team composed of young players from eMalahleni and Middelburg.
