'Pirates will go all the way in the Champions League'

Former Moroka Swallows and Black Leopards coach Zeca Marques has backed Orlando Pirates to go all the way in the CAF Champions League this season.

The Buccaneers are going into their Champions League quarter-final second-leg on Wednesday carrying a 1-0 advantage over MC Alger following their win in Algeria last week.

Marques says the Soweto giants' ability to manage football matches will see them going all the way.

"Sometimes what makes these games difficult is undermining the opposition, and then you pay the price," Marques tells KickOff.

"Pirates obviously did well in the first round, and everything is going well for them, so there's a lot of confidence about Pirates at the moment.

"But I'm sure the Pirates players will understand the importance of this game and its magnitude. But if the players are focused then I don't see a problem.

"Pirates have more than enough as a team than MC Alger. It's Alger who should worry about Pirates and not the other way around.

"They are creating momentum, Pirates; there's a lot of positives and energy around the team. The performances in Africa have been solid.

"It's a case of taking your opportunities during a match, depending on the mindset and the ambition of the players. If they know how much this is going to change their lives.

"Every game is a battle, and Pirates head coach has prepared them well for each battle. Every time they face a challenge, they rise to the occasion.

"They will go all the way, Pirates; I think they can do it easily; the guys from Northern Africa are not doing well at the moment; they have challenges. And we need to take full advantage of that

"So I think this is an opportunity for Pirates to win the Champions League this season."
