Mamelodi Sundowns could not capitalise on Kaizer Chiefs' slip up after a 1-0 loss to Baroka FC on Sunday evening. Sundowns started with just one change in Andile Jali, who replaced Rivaldo Coetzee in midfield as Ayanda Dlamini dropped in for the suspended Elvis Chipezeze in Baroka's goal. Dlamini was given early work on three minutes after pushing Sphelele Mkhulise's close-range attempt from the far side behind for a corner-kick following a ball over the top. Sundowns goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene almost directed the ball into his own net minutes later after misjudging the flight of a ball from the left-side of the area. Mweene was beaten though when Ananias Gebhardt's free header from an in-swinging corner on 20 minutes left the Zambian flat-footed en-route to bulging the net. Sundowns threatened to go level nine minutes before halftime off Lyle Lakay's left-footed free-kick from the far side, but the delivery narrowly missed the far corner of Dlamini's goal. No side made changes following the interval, as Masandawana looked for a complete turnaround following the earlier inter-phase of the second stanza. The Brazilians showed their hand from the dugout and introduced Sibusiso Vilakazi and Promise Mkhuma 53 minutes in, with Jali and Jose Ali Meza making way. Vilakazi was on the field for all but nine minutes as he made way for Lebohang Maboe following a niggling injury. Baroka could have put the Brazilians out of sight following the midway point of the second half, but Evidence Makgopa could not profit from the far side of the area. Lakay launched another threat down the visitors throat with a pin-point free-kick, but Dylan Kerr's side defended deep to wrap up the victory while Gaston Sirino had a late strike tipped over the crossbar by Dlamini. The result sees Sundowns remain in second spot while Baroka have moved up to 13th spot, three points above the drop zone.
