'Cape Town Stars (Pty) Ltd, the minority shareholder which has reached an agreement to take full control of Ajax Cape Town as of 1 October, has launched an official application with the Premier Soccer League (PSL) to rename the franchise,' the statement says.
'The Cape Town club is set to be rebranded and renamed Cape Town Spurs once the application process is approved.
'Spurs and Seven Stars merged in 1999 to form Ajax Cape Town and it is the new owners' intent to adopt the Cape Town Spurs name which remains well known within the South African football community.'

GK - Wayne Roberts - One of the best goalkeepers of his time. Should have gone on to greater things in SA football. Calm and composed and a great shot-stopper.

RB - Sizwe Motaung - So fortunate to have played with the ultimate right-back at Bafana. Famous for those darting runs, whipping crosses into the box, from which we usually scored.

LB - David Nyathi - Naturally gifted, he was my teammate at CT Spurs. Mastered the art of cutting out diagonal balls and also effective at putting crosses into the opposition box.

LCB - Edries Burton - I had the honour of winning a league title alongside Edries Burton. He had the heart of a lion and always demanded 110 percent from his teammates. Very solid.

RCB - Lucas Radebe - He was an inspirational leader and great captain. One of the best man-markers in the world. Incredibly calm and composed when marshalling his defence.

CM - Eric Tinkler - No-nonsense midfielder who did the 'dirty work' for the team. Never fancy but always effective. Very seldom gave the ball away. The first to put in tackles.

CM - John Moshoeu - Our playmaker. Shoes had licence to set up and join in attacks. Dropped deep to receive and look for passes to strikers and wide players. Also had eye for goal.

RM - David Modise - My league-winning CT Spurs teammate. With Sizwe making runs, David had an amazing ability to come inside, take on defenders, play one-twos and score goals.

LM - Helman Mkhalele - I'm looking for someone with pace and two good feet who could get wide and cross for strikers, or take defenders on. 'Midnight Express' is a perfect fit.

ST - Jean-Marc Ithier - My teammate at Santos, we planned most of our attacks around him. A great header, through his career a large percentage of his goals came from his head.

ST - Shaun Bartlett - A striker with all-round ability. Great first-touch control with two good feet. Scored great headed goals but also composed finishes within confined spaces.
