Ex-Bafana defender: What Jordaan's arrest proved about SAFA

Former Bafana Bafana defender Benson Mhlongo has shared his thoughts on the recent arrest of South African Football Association (SAFA) president, Dr. Danny Jordaan, who was arrested on Thursday on charges of fraud and theft.

Jordaan and his two other accused are currently out on R20 000 bail following his arrest.

Mhlongo believes that Jordaan should take a leave of absence and step down until proven otherwise.

"Jordaan's arrest shows that we actually don't have a successor in place." Mhlongo says.

He emphasizes the need for an acting president to take over during such incidents, raising concerns about the future of the leadership under the current president.

Mhlongo continued, "What are these senior officials doing for us if there is no successor? Where is our football headed? SAFA claims they don't have a step-aside rule since they are not a political party, but it is disheartening to see our president facing such serious allegations."

Mhlongo noted that there is no visible deputy who can step in, leading to significant questions about the structure of the organization.

"No wonder they are hesitant to involve former players like Lucas Radebe," Mhlongo added.

"It's about time one of us takes over. Jordaan should go home and relax until these allegations are resolved."
