Eric Tinkler started his reign at Sekhukhune United on a winning note following a 2-1 win away to Marumo Gallants on Wednesday night.
Sipho Mbule was back in the matchday squad but was only named on the bench for Tinkler's first game in charge of the Limpopo outfit, while Andy Boyeli and Keletso Makgalwa continued in the attack.
While Sekhukhune were not in action over the weekend, Gallants were taken to the limits by Durban City in the Nedbank Cup quarter-final, which they ended up winning on penalties after it ended goalless after 120 minutes.
The start of the game was delayed by over 40 minutes due to the heavy rain in Bloemfontein, with the first half eventually getting underway at 20h15.
The first period was an evenly contested affair and while Tinkler's charges enjoyed more of the possession, there was a lack of quality in the final third from both sides as they entered the halftime break all square.
Sekhukhune, however, got the breakthrough five minutes after the restart as captain Mntambo bagged the first goal of the Tinkler era after getting on the end of Makgalwa's free-kick.
Gallants were not behind for too long as they managed to restore parity in the 66th minute, with Junior Dion getting second goal in six league appearances since joining the club from AmaZulu in January.
With the game seemingly headed for a draw, Sekhukhune grabbed the winning goal in the fourth minute of time added on courtesy of substitute Chibuike Ohizu.
