After coming through the ranks in the Pirates youth setup and having done well in the MultiChoice Diski Challenge, defender Darnell Job was tipped for bigger things before parting ways with the Soweto giants.
The 22-year-old is currently clubless and looking for his next move.
"What can I say, Orlando Pirates and I came to an agreement of mutual termination," Job tells snl24.com/kickoff.
"Reason being, 2016 to 2017 I had my breakthrough season with the club and played the entire MDC season hitting one of the highest assist rates in the league at the time.
"Casey Prince from Ubuntu Cape Town saw me play and enquired for myself and Yanga Baliso to join them on loan, and the club refused. I had to play another season in the MDC.
"End of season, Ubuntu just survived relegation and they enquired the second time for my services and the club refused. On top of that they wanted to cut my salary by 50 percent. I refused, and that's where things ended in mutual termination."
The former South Africa under-17 player had been invited for trials in Portugal towards the end of 2018, though that also failed to yield the desired results before stints with Polokwane City and Cape Umoya United.
"After leaving Orlando Pirates I had a short spell with Ubuntu and later that season I joined Polokwane City," he adds.
"Currently there are a few teams that we are in contact with, a few seem quite interested in my profile and I'm just praying and training hard something concrete comes my way."
Job says his wish is to return to football and do well to get an opportunity to finish what he started at Pirates and possibly move overseas.
"Every South African player's dream is to play abroad and reach the highest level of football and most definitely Orlando Pirates was my home, my family.
"Like they say, once and always. I feel like I still had a lot to offer at the club and hopefully God-willing I'll get the opportunity."
