DStv Compact Cup match report Warriors v Amabutho 22 January 2022

Warriors FC will face Coastal United in the final of the DStv Compact Cup after defeating Amabutho FC 2-1 on Saturday evening.

Goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune started for Warriors, who also boasted the likes of Happy Jele, Njabulo Ngcobo and Keagan Dolly, while Victor Letsoalo and Siyethemba Sithebe started for Amabutho.

The latter almost handed his side a dream start eight minutes in with a glancing header from a well-worked corner-kick but he guided wide.

Warriors received further pressure moments inside the half-hour mark from a first-time volley in the area by Pule Mmodi, but a point-blank save from Khune staved off the Golden Arrows man.

Although, the pressure began to exert on Amabutho in which hesitant defending from Keegan Ritchie played in Kwame Peprah just inside the closing quarter of the half but goalkeeper Veli Mothwa gathered.

There were substitutions either side at the restart, as Warriors introduced Bonginkosi Ntuli for Daylon Claasen and Amabutho brought on Fortune Makaringe and Ruzaigh Gamildien.

Amabutho were dealt a set-back five minutes into the break as a back-pass from Sithebe wrong-footed Mothwa before rolling into the bottom-corner of the net.

That didn't dropped their heads minutes thereafter which had promising chances from Letsoalo and Nkosinathi Sibisi's cheeky attempt however Khune kept them at bay.

The Kaizer Chiefs shot-stopper was finally breached inside the last 20 minutes after Sibisi charged on a rebound in the area to tap in from close-range.

Khune would go on to redeem himself with just over ten minutes played when he pulled off a solid one-hand palm from Mmodi's rasping strike outside the area.

Warriors, who remained on the back-foot, snatched the winner in the last six minutes after Monnapule Saleng pulled wide to smash a cross-field delivery into the far corner.

Amabutho threatened to draw level again shortly after going behind, but Khune parried to help his side into the final where they will play Coastal United next weekend.

Confirmed line-ups:

Warriors: Khune, Njabulo Ngcobo, Mako, Jele, Matlaba, Lorch, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Blom, Hotto, Dolly, Peprah
