'I don’t like dishonest people, referees, and injuries...

In this edition of In The Spotlight, KickOff speaks with former Kaizer Chiefs center-back Dominic 'Domza' Isaacs. Isaacs reveals three things he dislikes about football.

Growing up, who was your idol?

"My idol was Eric Cantona, the French legend. Every time I switched on the TV, he was making an impact. I grew up playing as a midfielder. He took responsibility, he was a star, and he wasn't afraid. He transformed Manchester United from mere contenders into champions."

Your favourite team?

"Mthatha Bush Bucks, my brother. They were always the underdogs, despite having good players like John Maduka, John Mbidzo, Wilfred Mugeyi, William Mugeyi, Thabo Mngomeni, Tsepo Ntsoane, and Mzunani Mgwigwi."

Your breakthrough into top-flight football?

"I was at Ajax Cape Town after joining from the School of Excellence. It wasn't easy because things that come easy often don't last long."

Who was your best friend in football?

"Shaun Oliver. Football is what brought us together."

What do you dislike about football?

"I really don't like dishonest people, referees, and injuries, even though they are part of the game."

Your favourite player in South Africa at the moment?

"I enjoy watching Themba Zwane play. He is fearless, and he doesn't shy away from anyone, he plays beautiful football. He is five steps ahead of every move."

If you could join any South African club right now as a player, which club would it be?

"Haai, for life, baba! Ajax is no more, Bloemfontein Celtic is no more, so what remains is Khosi for life."
