Motaung has been accused of contravening South Africa's lockdown regulations after apparently being pictured at a house party.
There is a video circulating on social media of what looks like the Amakhosi top boss standing in a lounge talking to another man while four women dance and smoke a shisha pipe.
It is not known who was with Motaung in the video, whether the women were with him or just there, or at which location the party took place.
"We are looking into this and any other transgressions by the members of the club," Chiefs communications manager Vina Maphosa tells snl24.com/kickoff.
"The relevant offices will deal with that internally. We are committed to promoting measures to curb the spread of Covid-19."
Asked if by that he meant the club was looking into the Motaung issue, Maphosa replies: "It's a continous exercise for all the members of the club, including this one."
In another video posted on social media, Motaung is more clearly pictured celebrating what appears to be somebody's birthday party.
Addressing the justice, crime prevention and security (JCPS) cluster at a media briefing in Pretoria in July, police minister Bheki Cele said people are allowed to drink alcohol 'in private, inside their homes or their yards but not in public spaces, on pavements or in their vehicles'.
'Bobsteak' received a backlash on social media as the public has been urged to stay at home and avoid social gatherings as the coronavirus reaches its peak in the country.
Motaung could not be reached for comment.
