My First Pay Cheque: Mohau Mokate

In this edition of My First Pay Cheque, former Polokwane City, Ajax Cape Town, and Maritzburg United center-forward Mohau Mokate reveals how he spent his first pay cheque.

Mokate currently plies his trade in the Eastern Cape's ABC Motsepe League for Highbury.

Who you signed for?

"I was playing for Highbury in the ABC Motsepe League in the Eastern Cape, it was in the 2011/12 Season.

"And at the moment I'm back at Highbury fighting for promotion to the National First Division."

How much was it?

"It was R1000. I was excited because I was from school at Orbit College, and there at Orbit we didn't get paid.

"So it was nice to finally get something at the end of the month. There was also an extra R250 for a goal, I could make an extra R500.

"I played there until December, and I was the top goalscorer. I think I had like 12 goals."

How do I celebrate?

"I bought myself clothes and some VAN sneakers. At that time they cost about R300.

"The rest of the money I bought food with it and some toiletries. I kept the rest for myself as pocket money."

Did it last you the full month?

"It didn't, but because of some bonuses for scoring goals, I could manage to have some extra cash, which enabled me to get extra money every week.

"I would also get another money from bonuses that came from winning matches.

"I would get R250 for scoring one goal and another R500 for winning that particular match. In total, I'd make R750 in just one game."
