Chiefs' stop-start season continued on Tuesday when the club was held to a goalless draw by relegation-threatened TS Galaxy at the FNB Stadium.
The result leaves the Amakhosi in third position in the log where the club is currently 12 points behind league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, with a game in hand.
Stuart Baxter's side could climb into second position ahead of Royal AM if that game in hand is won and the former Bafana Bafana coach believes the work being done is often overlooked because of the expectations at the club.
"When I was working with England national teams, we used to say that the England shirt can weigh heavy," Baxter said in his post-match press conference.
"When you're not playing well and the expectations are high, it weighs heavy and I think it's a case of that at Chiefs.
"The expectations are high and the process of not doing bad and being in the mix is sometimes forgotten because we want so much.
"Now that can be both good and bad, can't it? So we try to get that message down to the players so that they play freely and without anxiety but it's a difficult one.
"When it's in a situation where you think, 'No, we should be doing better than this,' that weighs heavy on the players sometimes and it's a difficult one to address, especially during a game.
