Sunday World reported on Sunday that Matlaba was involved in a shooting incident in Tembisa, which resulted in one of the victims being hospitalised.
While it was alleged that Matlaba got into a brawl, his representative Abel Rasimphi has since revealed that it was in fact an attempted hijacking of the Bucs defender's vehicle in Phomolong.
"They were trying to hijack his car. Fortunately a police car was passing by and the suspects ran away," Rasimphi tells snl24.com/kickoff. "There were no injuries, and the player is fine."
Matlaba previously lost his car a few years ago, after his twin brother was hijacked in Pretoria. The car was never recovered.
