Bafana Bafana threw away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Liberia in their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Friday evening.
Percy Tau and Lyle Foster led the attack for the home side, who had Cassius Mailula on the bench as they pushed for their first win in the group.
Liberia staged the first scare in the opening seconds following a low rasping free-kick towards the near corner by Mohammed Kamara, but Bafana goalkeeper Ronwen Williams tipped behind.
The host quickly shrugged off the nervous start where goalkeeper Tommy Songo stuck out a high boot on Tau and conceded a penalty, which Foster confidently dispatched to open the scoring on 11 minutes.
Bafana claimed a second around the midway mark of the first half when Foster peeled off one challenge at the near post and headed in from a perfectly weighted corner to complete his brace.
It should've been three for the host a few seconds later from a close-range effort by Bongokuhle Hlongwane after winning possession from a high-press, but he fired off the outside post from close range.
Shortly after the break, Bafana seemed to have found a third goal after Tau curled into the bottom-corner with a free-kick , but it was ruled out due to the fact that it was an indirect free-kick.
Tau got a perfect chance to redeem himself around the latter stage of the second half when he latched onto a ball over the top and went clear, but he dragged his effort wide of the mark.
The Lone Stars sprung to life after an extremely quiet period as Tonia Tisdell executed a free-kick from a tight angle in off the defence and past Williams in the last 20 minutes of the match.
However, the host kept matters tight ten minutes later and introduced Mailula for his national team debut as he replaced the two-goal hero Foster.
Liberia, though, levelled in added time when Mohammed Sangare drifted in-field and unleashed a scorching effort that nestled into the top corner and furthermore handed the visitors a point.
