Amajita coach Helman Mkhalele names 20-man squad for 2020 COSAFA U20 Championship

Amajita head coach head Helman Mkhalele has named his final 20-man squad that will represent South Africa in the COSAFA U-20 Championship.

With the 28-man provisional squad packed with some of the countries brightest talents, the former Bafana Bafana midfielder admits the technical team faced a challenging task.

But eight players have now been cut from the final selection for the tournament set to take place in Port Elizabeth between the 3 and 13 December.

With Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Lesotho in Group A with the tournament hosts Mkhalele targeting to go one further than the runners-up spot in the 2019 edition - which they fell short to Zambia.

"I am very happy with the squad that we have assembled for this year's COSAFA tournament," Mkhalele said as he expressed their ambitions for the regional spectacle.

"None of this would have been possible if it was not for the tremendous support we had received for various clubs in releasing their players for this camp. For that, we are truly grateful as it enabled us with enough time to prepare and work with the players leading up to this crucial event.

"There are two things that we want to get out from this tournament. And that is: we want to qualify for next year's U-20 AFCON tournament by reaching this year's COSAFA final and also win the COSAFA Championship."
