10 Promising South African talents abroad who could lead Bafana Bafana into a new era

Kgaogelo Chauke signing a professional contract with Southampton marked another promising step for South African football with a crop of fine talent now emerging into the new decade.

Chauke, 17, committed his future with the Saints until 2022 after impressing within the club's esteemed academy.

He became the second South African-born footballer after Siph Mdalose to rise through the club's youth system and looks set for a bright future, according to Head of Youth Development Matt Hale.

The technically gifted midfielder is not the only one developing within the ranks of Premier League sides, with Khanya Leshabela and Nikola Tavares at Leicester City and Crystal Palace respectively.

Leshabela has already been roped into the Amajita set-up and is likely to be included in the 2020 Olympics squad if his progression with the Foxes continues into their first-team before the end of the season.

Meanwhile, 21-year-old Tavares earned a surprise call-up to the senior national team ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations by former head coach Stuart Baxter.

However, after failing to acquire the necessary documents for the towering defender to represent the nation, he was later dropped from the final 23-man squad.

Former Cape Town City winger Gift Links is another that's already had a taste of the national team set-up along with Kabomelo Kodisang, who both emerged from the academies of the now-defunct Platinum Stars.

Links, 21, is currently on the books of SuperLiga side Aarhus GF holds vast first-team experience already having starred in Egypt with Al Assiouty Sport (Pyramids) before a 'record' move to Cape Town.

His switch to Denmark is expected to be another stepping stone in an incredible journey for the tricky left-winger who was also called up by Baxter as a teenager back in 2017.

The rest of the list includes Bradley Cross of Schalke 04, Celtic FC's Tsoanelo Letsosa along with Varberg BoIS duo Keanin Ayer and Tashreeq Matthews.
