Billiat’s return suffers miscarriage for now…

Khama Billiat's projected return to the international scene to play against Bafana Bafana has been put in ice.

There had been suggestions that Billiat will be part of the Zimbabwe squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho (June 7) and Bafana (four days later).

This was based on the encouraging start that he has had with Yadah since joining them earlier in the year seven months after he failed to agree on a new contract at Kaizer Chiefs.

A squad that had been circulating had the 33-year-old named as one of the selected players.

With Billiat named, this had created hype around the fixture considering that the slippery forward remains a star attraction on both sides of the Limpopo River.

It had been expected that the former PSL Footballer of the Season would come out of retirement from international football, but that will not be happening for the World Cup qualifiers.

There remains a possibility that Billiat will be included in the squad for the COSAFA Cup tournament to be played in June.

That squad will not feature most of the 12 Europe-based players in the World Cup qualifiers squad to play Dikwena and Bafana.

The Warriors will 'host' Lesotho at Orlando on June 7 at Orlando Stadium, before they travel to Bloemfontein to meet Bafana on June 11.

Only two players based in South Africa – Divine Lunga (Mamelodi Sundowns) and Douglas Mapfumo (Polokwane City) – have been named in interim coach Jairos Tapera's squad.

However, familiar names of Teenage Hadebe, Gerald Takwara, Marshall Munetsi and Walter Musona, who have previously played in the PSL, have been included.
