Musona loses shootout to Cristiano Ronaldo in Saudi battle

The occasion to mark global superstar Cristiano Ronaldo's first appearance against former Kaizer Chiefs hitman Knowledge Musona was a spectacle that ultimately led to the Zimbabwean ending on the losing end in the Saudi Pro League.

Such was the hype that the Prince Abdul Aziz bin Musa'ed Stadium was packed to the rim in anticipation of the Portuguese' first appearance against Al Tai.

Ronaldo walked in as captain for Al Nassr and on the opposite end was Musona also wearing the armband for the much-anticipated tie.

With all the pre-match protocol which included handshakes and photo shoots for CR7 and Musona it was down to the business of the night.

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner came into the match with a single goal from his last four so focus was on the famous number seven.

Following a goalless first half, Ronaldo was on hand to push his team into the lead early on in the second half drilling home the opener from the penalty spot.

Brazilian forward Talisca then added the second late in the match to leave Musona frustrated as his team lost a second match in a row.

CR7 has now scored 13 goals for Al-Nassr since moving to Saudi Arabia in January while Musona has scored eight this season playing as an attacking midfielder.

Both CR7 and Musona will come up against Pitso Mosimane's Al Ahli Saudi next season after the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach guided them to promotion back to the Saudi Pro League.

Musona turns 33 next year and is in his second season playing for Al Tai.

Last season he was the club's top scorer with six plus eight assists playing in midfield and was ranked amongst the top performers in the league.
