Downs loanee gets past latest concerns

The fears that greeted Matias Esquivel's latest injury have gone up in smoke with the Argentine having returned to training as he seeks to move into the next gear.

Esquivel was signed by Mamelodi Sundowns at the beginning of the year from Club Atletico Lanus in a transfer reported to be worth a whopping USD2,5 million (approx. R45 million).

His short stay at Chloorkop came up to two goals in 13 appearances.

Considering what was paid for his services, this wasn't the return that both Sundowns and the player had aimed for with the Argentine pointing out how difficult adjusting to South Africa was with his family suffering a lot.

The decision was then made for Esquivel to go on loan at Club Atletico Talleres in the Liga Profesional Argentina (top-tier league).

Three months later, the 25-year-old is yet to score or assist in nine appearances.

The last two weeks have come with a muscle tear scare after he was brought in as a substitute and then taken out 14 minutes later against his former club CA Lanus.

However, it has turned out for the better now with Esquivel expected to be back available for selection next week.

Talleres remain in contention for a top-place finish with four games to play.

With the Argentine still under contract at Sundowns, what he does on loan remains of interest at Chloorkop, where there remains a foreign spot open for the January transfer window.

The Brazilians' four foreign spots have been taken by Latinos in Erwin Saavedra, Marcelo Allende, Lucas Ribeiro Costa, and Arthur Sales.
