'It's not fair!' - Doc Khumalo slams PSL clubs

Bafana Bafana legend Doctor Khumalo has hit out at PSL clubs over what he believes is harsher treatment of local coaches and more leniency towards their foreign counterparts.

As of January 1, 2025, eight of the 16 PSL coaches had already exited the clubs they had started the season with, either through being sacked or resignation.

Or, to be more politically in tune: '...by mutual consent'.

Former AmaZulu FC co-coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi exited in February, while Gavin Hunt was let go by SuperSport United in March. In between was the shock exit of Muhsin Ertugral, having replaced Eric Tinkler at Cape Town City in January.

Perhaps the most bizarre of these is that of Lehlohonolo Seema, who was shown the door by Sekhukhune United despite guiding the club to third spot with less than 12 matches left.

Speaking on SABC Sport's Soccer Zone, Khumalo questioned the firing and hiring of coaches in the league.

"It's what I am saying, our coaches are coaching, but they are not as comfortable as their counterparts that come to this country, who are given a contract," he said.

"They (club bosses) don't interfere (with the foreign coaches), they don't intimidate, they allow them to coach peacefully.

"But for our local coaches, you lose two games and they say: 'Hey, if you lose one more game, you are out.'

"That is not fair!

"Why is it that our coaches are doing a merry go-round? You leave here, you enter there, you exit here, and enter there? What informs your rotation or your movement...?

"You were not doing great [at the previous club] but you are entering here?" questioned the former Chiefs star.

Tinkler has since taken over at Babina Noko, while Seema is linked with a move to Richards Bay FC, who are currently under the guidance of Papi Zothwane.
