JUST IN: New PSL club for Tinkler...

Over two months after parting ways with Cape Town City, experienced coach Eric Tinkler has found himself a new home within the PSL.

It was on December 31, 2024 that Cape Town City released a statement announcing a parting of ways with Tinkler with results having been headed south for a while at that point.

In fact, the Citizens were floating just three points above the relegation zone in 12th place.

Speculation has been rife for a while now that the former Bafana Bafana midfield destroyer was being courted by several clubs locally, among them Sekhukhune United.

It did not help that the club's situation with Lehlohonolo Seema was one that invited curious glances after it was rumoured Babina Noko would once more be releasing him, this after he came back earlier this season following the ill-fated spell of German coach Peter Hyballa.

Eventually, Seema was let go last week, on the day in which he attended a Nedbank Cup press conference representing the club ahead of the now postponed quarterfinal clash against Mamelodi Sundowns.

These bizarre developments left the door wide open for Tinkler, who is understood to already be in Johannesburg and has been welcomed with warm hands at the club's base on Monday.

"Sekhukhune United Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Eric Tinkler as Head Coach, he will immediately take the reins and lead the team," said a club statement, in part.

The 54-year-old will be assisted by Paulus Masehe and Marc Van Heerden, with Nascent Nkhwashu also continuing in his role as goalkeeper coach.
