How Downs, Pirates & Chiefs foreign stars fared in World Cup qualifiers

With the FIFA World Cup qualifiers still ongoing, KickOff wraps up how Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs foreign stars are faring.

Mamelodi Sundowns:

Divine Lunga

Lunga started in Zimbabwe's 2-2 draw against Benin on Thursday, in the same group as Bafana Bafana in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The Warriors came back from two goals down to rescue a point but their qualifying chances were severely dented, as they remained bottom of the section with three points.

The 29-year-old will has travelled with Michael Nees' charges for the game against Nigeria on Tuesday.

Peter Shalulile

Shalulile played a key role as Namibia went up to second in Group H of the World Cup qualifiers, following a 1-0 win over Malawi on Thursday.

'Sha Sha' had an assist to the lone goal scored by Prince Tjiueza.

The Brave Warriors are in world cup qualifier action at home against Equatorial Guinea on Monday afternoon.

Orlando Pirates:

Deon Hotto

Hotto featured in the line-up alongside Shalulile and Tjiueza for the Brave Warriors in their narrow win over The Flames.

Gilberto

Gilberto, on loan at Petro de Luanda, came off the bench with nine minutes to go for Angola, as they came back from a goal down to salvage a 1-1 draw against Libya in a World Cup qualifier on Thursday.

The Palancas Negras are in the running for qualification, as they are lying fourth in Group D, three points behind leaders Cape Verde.

Kaizer Chiefs:

Edmilson Dove

Dove was introduced with 18 minutes to go and with Mozambique already cruising in their 3-1 win over Uganda in a World Cup qualifier on Thursday.

The Mambas are in a good position to qualify, currently only second to Algeria on goal difference in Group G.

The Amakhosi left-back has travelled to Algeria for a top-of-the-table clash on Tuesday.

Fiacre Ntwari

Even though he has fallen down the pecking order at Chiefs, Ntwari was in the line-up for Rwanda as they lost 2-0 to Nigeria on Friday, in the same World Cup qualifiers group as Bafana.

The Wasps, however, are just three points behind leaders Hugo Broos' charges and host Lesotho on Tuesday evening.
