Grobler advised to consider future

Moroka Swallows legend Les Grobler has advised his son, Bradley, to consider retiring from football.

Bradley Grobler's successful career has been marred by a series of long-term injuries, and it is believed that this season may be his last.

Les believes the SuperSport United striker has accomplished more in the game than many players manage to achieve before they retire.

At 37 years old, Bradley won the 2020/21 DStv Premiership Golden Boot with 16 goals, as well as the Telkom Knockout in the 2014/15 season, the MTN 8, and two Nedbank Cup trophies, all while playing for SuperSport United.

"I don't know if Bradley will retire," Les Grobler tells KickOff.

"I think after his recent operation and with the issues he's had in his face, he might decide to retire at the end of the season.

"I believe it's time for him to consider that; his body is telling him, 'Hey man, enough is enough.'

"You don't want to quit when you're not performing well; you want to retire while you're still part of the game.

"Unfortunately, he's dealing with injuries this season, which aren't helping him. I know he's training well and is still performing adequately—he's not getting tired or anything like that.

"However, I think that when his body tells his mind, 'I'm finished,' that's when he will retire. So far, he hasn't mentioned anything about retiring.

"Personally, I am very proud of what he has achieved in football, though I am disappointed with the time he has lost due to injuries. Without those setbacks, he could have been one of the all-time top scorers in our country. That is the only milestone he hasn't reached in our football.

"Was he better than me as a player? Yes, I believe he is, even though some people say he isn't quite at my level yet."
