The winger parted ways with SuperSport United recently and is looking for employment elsewhere with a few Gauteng clubs like Orlando Pirates, Highlands Park and Wits said to be lining up for his signature.
Phala had only played 11 matches in all competitions for Matsatsantsa this season before his relationship with coach Kaitano Tembo turned sour because of his lack of game-time.
It is not clear yet which team the former Bafana Bafana star will choose but according to a very reliable source close to the player, his camp has recently held talks with Wits.
"Yes nothing has been confirmed yet, teams are still concentrating on the top five, top eight," the source tells snl24.com/kickoff.
"At the moment it's Bidvest Wits who have approached his camp for the player. They are trying to complete everything during the Easter weekend. When that time comes definitely we will know."
Wits CEO Jose Ferreira and head coach Gavin Hunt could not be reached for comment.
Meanwhile, Highlands Park head coach Owen Da Gama says at the moment they have not tried to engage with the player or his camp. "No there's nothing, no developments, no nothing."
