Ntuli has failed to win over coach Pitso Mosimane at Chloorkop since his arrival from Golden Arrows in January 2015, having thrice been loaned to Platinum Stars and once to AmaZulu.
According to a source close to Ntuli, the 27-year-old met with Downs management this week and requested he be put on the market.
"Ntuli met with Sundowns this week where he asked to be placed on transfer," says the informant.
"The club is still considering his request."
Ntuli's manager Mandla Mthembu confirmed a productive meeting was held with officials but stopped short of providing details.
"Yes, it's true we had a meeting with Sundowns. It was regarding his future at the club. I can't reveal details of the meeting to the media but we had a good discussion."
Mthembu was similarly guarded when asked about reports linking Usuthu and Maritzburg United with his KwaZulu-Natal-born client.
"Obviously there will always be interest for a good striker like Ntuli. He needs a place where he will settle down and the issue of loans is unsettling him.
"I can't discuss about the teams interested in him. Our priority at the moment is to sort out his future with Sundowns and then we can start looking at other options."
