Lebese put an end to a four-month spell without a club after signing with United States second division club Colorado Springs Switchbacks on Thursday.
The 30-year-old was let go of by Sundowns at the start of September this year, after his failure to secure a move away from Chloorkop during the July-August transfer window.
With a local deal failing to materialise for the ex-Kaizer Chiefs star while he was a free agent, South African coach Alan Koch afforded him an opportunity to move to America.
The Durban-born tactician, who joined the Switchbacks in October this year, has since explained what value he sees in Lebese and how he could contribute to their targets for next season.
"George is a player that we are incredibly excited about. He is in need of a fresh opportunity after many years of success in the South African Premier League," Koch explained on the club's website.
"We look forward to supporting him and helping get his confidence back. When George is flowing, the team is flowing.
"He is going to be an integral part of our new-look team and he has the ability to unlock the opposition's defence through his vision and passing ability."
The USL Championship season runs from March to October, and Lebese will be hoping to spearhead the Switchbacks up the table after they ended bottom of the 18-team Western Conference in the 2019 season.
