Comitis unveiled his new club’s name, logo and colours at an official launch at Cape Town Stadium today, and confirmed he will try to sign the former Bafana Bafana captain.
Pienaar was last set for talks with Pirates and is a considering a move back to South Africa following several years at Everton in England.
“If Steven Pienaar is prepared to drop his salary requirements by a zero, his signing is definitely something we would do,” Comitis tells snl24.com/kickoff.
“I’d love to bring Steven back to where it all started for him, remember I signed him for Ajax Cape Town in 2000 and used to advise him, so it would be fitting if he returns to finish his career in Cape Town.”
Comitis has retained 14 players which he called the “cream of the crop” from the Mpumalanga Black Aces team that Muhsin Ertugral led to fourth place in the Absa Premiership last season.
Among those 14 are 11 players that made the first plane trips down – Lehlohonolo Nonyane, Mpho Matsi, Sibusiso Masina, Vincent Kobola, Bhongolwethu Jayiya, Given Mashikinya, Aubrey Ngoma, Lebogang Manyama, Thabo Nodada, Nana Akosah-Bempah and Shu-Aib Walters.
